Explanation
Updated October 26, 2026
Paediatrician consultation, requested by a physician or NP, about a fetus over 20 weeks at risk from continuing the pregnancy.
What it covers
A prenatal consultation is rendered by a paediatrician at the request of a physician or nurse practitioner who considers a fetus over 20 weeks' gestation to be at risk or in jeopardy from continuing the pregnancy because of maternal and/or fetal distress (A170).
A prenatal consultation does not stop the paediatrician from also claiming a post-natal consultation on the infant (A170).
Billing rules
- Fetus must be more than 20 weeks' gestation and considered at risk (A170).
- Needs all consultation requirements, including a written request and a written report (GP16).
- A post-natal consultation on the baby can still be claimed later (A170). If the paediatrician doesn't attend the delivery (H267), a postnatal consultation (C265) may be claimed whether or not a prenatal consultation was already claimed (K3).
- Can be done by video only (not phone) with an existing relationship; add K300A (AJ2, A66, A70).
Common rejections
- ARF: OHIP describes this as 'Missing physician referring number': a consultation needs the referring physician's or NP's billing number from the written request (GP16).
