Explanation

Procedural sedation (4 basic units) given in support of a nerve block procedure done by another physician. No extra units.

What it covers

E030C is the only way to bill procedural sedation given in support of a service performed by another physician from the Nerve Blocks for Acute Pain Management, Interventional Pain Injections or Peripheral/Other Nerve Block sections. General anaesthesia or deep sedation for the same situation is E031C (GP99).

Procedural sedation is drug-induced depression of consciousness in which the patient responds purposefully to verbal commands, alone or with light touch, with no airway intervention needed and adequate spontaneous breathing (GP100).

Billing rules

  • Paid as 4 basic units (GP99).
  • Extra units from GP97 (age, BMI, position, ASA class) are not payable with E030C (GP99).
  • Z432C is not payable for anaesthesia in support of a nerve block (GP99).
  • E030C is not for sedation with your own procedure: an anaesthetic, nerve block or other medication you give with a procedure you perform on the same patient is not payable; the only exception is G224 for a post-operative pain block (GP100-GP101).
  • Bill with the C suffix, as for other anaesthesia services (GP93).
