Explanation

Updated October 26, 2026

Open reduction (with fixation) of a fractured clavicle.

What it covers

F118 is open reduction of a clavicle fracture (N26). Open reduction means exposing the fracture or closed intramedullary fixation, and includes fixation by internal or external devices (N1).

Clavicle fractures treated without reduction are billed with the usual visit fee, and closed reduction with anaesthetic is F110 (N26).

Billing rules

  • The major pre-operative visit (the consultation or assessment where you decide to operate) may be billed in addition (N1, SP2).
  • Multiple fractures or dislocations: the major one is paid at 100% and the others at 85% (N1).
  • Repeat reductions of the same fracture: bill the full fee for the final reduction; earlier reductions by the same surgeon are claimed at 85% (N2).
  • If you hand the patient over for after-care, the surgeon who did an open reduction claims 80% of the listed fee (N2).
  • Non-elective surgery started in the evening, at night, or on a weekend or holiday can add E409 (+50%) or E410 (+75%) (GP104, SP2).
  • Surgical procedures on children under 16 get the age premium (10–30% by age) (GP64).

Often billed with

  • E409 or E410 after-hours premium for non-elective surgery (GP104).
  • E556 extensive debridement of a compound fracture, +50% to the reduction fee (N4).
