Explanation

Endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) for guided biopsy of hilar and/or mediastinal lymph nodes. Extra EBUS biopsies add E837, maximum 3.

What it covers

G050 is endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) used to guide biopsy of hilar and/or mediastinal lymph nodes, listed under Trachea and Bronchi in Respiratory Surgical Procedures (P10). It carries prefix #, so premises and equipment are not included in the fee (P10, SP1).

It is a separate listing from conventional bronchoscopy Z327, where transbronchial needle aspiration of mediastinal or hilar nodes is the add-on E677 (P9).

Billing rules

  • E837 is payable for each additional biopsy done by EBUS, to a maximum of 3, and only with G050 (P10).
  • The major pre-operative visit, where the decision to do the procedure is made, is not included and is billed separately (SP2, GP4).

Often billed with

  • E837 for up to 3 additional EBUS biopsies (P10).
