ED physician writes interim in-patient admission orders for a non-elective patient who will be admitted by a different most responsible physician.
What it covers
In-patient interim admission orders are payable to an ED physician who is on call or on duty in the emergency department or Hospital Urgent Care Clinic for writing interim admission orders while a non-elective patient waits to be admitted by a different most responsible physician (A15).
Billing rules
- Payable in addition to the initial consultation or assessment done in the ED or Hospital Urgent Care Clinic, as long as each service is rendered separately by the ED physician (A16).
- Pays nil if the hospital admission assessment is payable to the ED physician (A16).
- Only for a non-elective patient being admitted by a different most responsible physician (A15).
- Special visit premiums are not payable with H-prefix ED codes (GP65).
- Not payable fee-for-service in an ED covered by an alternative funding agreement, except under the AFA's second on-call or GP Expert group numbers (GP110).
Often billed with
- The ED assessment or consultation for the same visit, e.g. H102 or H065 (A16).
Common rejections
- ESD: The hospital ED is part of an alternative funding agreement, so H-prefix services there aren't paid fee-for-service unless billed under the AFA's second on-call or GP Expert group number (GP110).
