Explanation
Updated October 26, 2026
Ophthalmic ultrasound, B-scan by contact method (excluding vascular study), with technical and professional components.
What it covers
J107 is an ophthalmic echography B-scan done by the contact method, excluding vascular studies (G3). B-mode is a two-dimensional scan with a two-dimensional display (G2).
Other ophthalmic ultrasound listings are J102 (quantitative A-mode), J103 (B-scan immersion) and J108 (biometry) (G3).
Billing rules
- Technical (H) and professional (P) components are claimed separately: suffix B for H, suffix C for P (G2).
- The H component is payable only in a hospital or a hospital's approved off-site premises, and not for in-patients or patients admitted within 24 hours for the same condition (G1, GP11).
- Outside a hospital, only the P component is billable (G2).
- The interpreting physician must personally interpret the study (G1).
- Every exam must have a permanent record and interpretive report (G2).
- Benefits are unilateral; comparison scans of the other side started by the interpreting physician or facility aren't payable when only one side was requested (G2).
Common rejections
- VHC: OHIP describes this as 'SLI required for technical fee': a technical-component (suffix B) claim needs the service location indicator, and the H fee is only payable in a hospital or approved off-site premises (H1, GP11).
