Counselling for transplant recipients, donors or their families when transplant or donation is imminent, per half-hour unit, for 1 or more persons.
What it covers
Transplant counselling is payable when transplant or donation is imminent, to give the recipient, donor or family member enough information and clinical data to make an informed decision about organ transplantation (GP60).
The listing covers 1 or more persons per session (A21). For K014 the counselling may be with the patient's relatives or representative rather than the patient (GP54).
Billing rules
- Submit the claim under the health number of the recipient or donor (GP60).
- As a counselling service it must be pre-booked, or the payment is adjusted to a lesser assessment fee (GP58).
- The same day, only the services on the counselling list are payable with it by you (for example E080, G372, K002, K003, K008, K015, K730); an assessment that day is not (GP58).
- Units are ½ hour or major part: 1 unit = at least 20 minutes, 2 units = 46, 3 units = 76, 4 units = 106, counted on consecutive direct contact time (GP54, GP55).
- Record start and stop times in the chart, or the service is not eligible for payment (GP7).
- May be given by video or phone as comprehensive virtual care with K300A or K301A (AJ1, A70).
Often billed with
- E080 first visit after hospital discharge, office or home, within 2 weeks of an acute in-patient discharge (GP28).
