What it covers
S318 is panniculectomy, including any necessary diastasis repair (S36).
Panniculectomy is insured only in the circumstances in Appendix D: significant symptoms related to the panniculus, a panniculus extending below the pubic symphysis when standing, and stable weight for at least 6 months when related to weight loss (S36, AD6–AD7).
Billing rules
- Prior authorization of payment from the Ministry of Health is required (S36, AD6).
- Not payable with abdominal or pelvic procedures unless the panniculectomy requirements are separately met (S36).
- Add E748 for umbilical hernia repair (S36).
- Add E809 when the panniculus extends beyond the mid-thigh; give enough information with the prior authorization request (S36).
- Abdominoplasty, and removal of excess fat or skin other than panniculectomy, are not insured (S36, AD7).
- E676 morbid obesity premium may apply when BMI is over 40 and recorded (SP6, SP7).
