Radical prostatectomy, with or without removal of bladder stones. Add E792 when done laparoscopically.

What it covers

S651 is a radical prostatectomy, with or without removal of bladder stones (U8).

It includes plastic repair of the bladder neck (S519) and vesiculectomy (S636) when done, and vasectomy when done, but not investigative cystoscopy (U8).

Billing rules

  • Don't bill S519 bladder neck repair, S636 vesiculectomy or vasectomy separately; they are included (U8).
  • Investigative cystoscopy is not included and may be billed separately (U8).
  • Add E792 (+25%) when performed laparoscopically (U8).
  • Staging pelvic lymphadenectomy is a separate listing, S652; a node sampling isn't a complete lymphadenectomy (U8).
  • E676 morbid obesity premium may apply (BMI over 40, general anaesthesia); S651 is on the eligible list (SP6).
  • Multiple procedures under the same anaesthetic: full fee for the major procedure, 85% for the others (SP2).
  • Age premium of 10–30% for patients under 16 (GP64).

Often billed with

  • E792 when performed laparoscopically (U8).
  • S652 staging pelvic lymphadenectomy (U8).
  • E676 for BMI over 40 (SP6).
