Explanation

Knee x-ray including the patella, five or more views, one side. The top tier of the knee series after X065 and X224.

What it covers

X225 is a knee radiograph including the patella with five or more views (D8). Two views are X065 and three or four views are X224 (D8). Fees are for a unilateral exam unless stated otherwise, and technical (H) and professional (P) components are claimed separately (D1, D2).

Billing rules

  • Claim the technical component as X225B and the professional component as X225C (D2, GP11).
  • Outside a hospital, only the professional component is billable to OHIP (D2, GP11).
  • Bill by the number of views taken: fewer than five knee views is X224 (three or four) or X065 (two), not X225 (D8).
  • One knee per listing; comparison films of the other side initiated by the radiologist are not claimed (D2).
  • A stereo pair counts as two views toward the five (D2).
  • The technical component is not payable for an in-patient, or a patient admitted to the same hospital within 24 hours for the same condition (GP11).
