Excision of three or more cysts, haemangiomas or lipomas (Group 3) on the face or neck, under local anaesthetic.

What it covers

Group 3 lesions are cysts, haemangiomas and lipomas. On the face or neck, the local anaesthetic codes are Z122–Z124; general anaesthetic codes are Z145–Z147 (M4).

Lipomas 5 to 10 cm are Z096 and over 10 cm Z097 (M4).

Billing rules

• Use the local anaesthetic listing when no general anaesthetic is needed (SP5 §19).
• Add E542 when performed outside hospital (listed under this group; M4).
• Removal of lesions for cosmetic purposes, without clinical suspicion of disease, is not insured (M3, AD3).
• A Z code is an independent operative procedure: if your decision-to-operate visit was in the prior 12 months, only a minor (GP) or partial (specialist) assessment is payable before it the same day (SP4 §13).
• FHO: a Schedule 4 office procedure for the office procedures special payment (Agreement p.67 §8.7, p.94).
