What it covers

Z786 is aspiration and irrigation of the corpora cavernosa with an intracavernosal vasoactive injection for priapism, with or without a distal corporoglanular shunt (U1).

Billing rules

  • A distal corporoglanular shunt is included (U1); a proximal cavernoso-spongiosal or other venous shunt is S565 (U2).
  • A Z-code is an independent operative procedure: if your major pre-operative visit was in the past 12 months, only a minor assessment (family physicians) or partial assessment (specialists) is payable before it that day; if the major pre-op visit is the same day, no other assessment before it is payable (SP4 §13).
  • Non-elective surgery on a special visit evenings, nights, weekends or holidays: add E409 (+50%) or E410 (+75%) to the procedural fee (SP2 §2, GP104).

Often billed with

  • E409 or E410 after-hours surgical premium for non-elective surgery on a special visit (SP2 §2).
