- Code
- G1
- Description
- Other critical/comprehensive care already paid
Explanation
Updated October 26, 2026
G1: critical, ventilatory or comprehensive care fees were already paid for this patient that day, so this critical care code wasn't paid.
What it means
G1 means OHIP did not pay this critical care claim because other critical or comprehensive care for the same patient had already been paid.
Critical care, ventilatory support and comprehensive care per diem fees are team fees: they are paid per patient as if there were one physician-in-charge. When critical, ventilatory, neonatal intensive care or comprehensive care fees are claimed, no other critical care codes are paid to the same physician(s) (Schedule J30, rules A and B).
Common causes
- Two physicians on the same ICU team each billed the per diem for the same patient and day
- Both critical care and comprehensive care (or ventilatory support) billed for the same patient and day
How to fix it
- Check who on the team billed the per diem for this patient and date.
- Agree within the team who bills the per diem for each day.
- If you believe the claim was paid to the wrong physician, send a Remittance Advice Inquiry (RAI) through eSubmit, or on form 0918-84, within 7 months of the RA date.
Don't resubmit if
- The claim is already on your RA. Use an RAI, not a new claim, if you disagree.
