ME — Maximum e-assessments already paid
E-assessment limit reached

What to do: Count e-assessments of that type paid in the last 12 months; if for a clearly different diagnosis, check the record shows it.

- Description
- Maximum e-assessments already paid
Explanation
Updated October 26, 2026
ME means the maximum number of e-assessments for this patient or physician has been paid. Check the e-assessment limits.
What it means
ME means the maximum number of e-assessments has already been paid.
Initial and repeat e-assessments are limited to one per patient per specialist per 12 months (two if the second request is for a clearly different diagnosis). Follow-up e-assessments are limited to 1 per day, 4 per patient per 12 months and 1,000 per physician per 12 months. Minor e-assessments are limited to 1 per day, 12 per patient per 12 months and 2,000 per physician per 12 months (Schedule GP37 to GP39).
Common causes
- A second initial e-assessment for the same diagnosis within 12 months
- Follow-up or minor e-assessments past the patient or physician limit
How to fix it
- Count the e-assessments of the same type paid for the patient in the last 12 months.
- If the request was for a clearly different diagnosis, check the record shows it.
- A later e-assessment for the same diagnosis may be payable as a repeat, follow-up or minor e-assessment instead (Schedule GP37).
- If you believe the decision is wrong, send a Remittance Advice Inquiry (RAI) through eSubmit, or on form 0918-84, within 7 months of the RA date, with supporting details.
Don't resubmit if
- The limit for that type of e-assessment was reached.
- The line is already on your RA. Question it with an RAI, not a new claim.
