V71 — Invalid Dental Master Number
Invalid dental master number
OHIP didn't accept the dental master number, which identifies the facility where the service was provided.
What to do: Confirm the master number for the facility where the service was done, correct the claim and resubmit.
- Code
- V71
- Description
- Invalid Dental Master Number
Explanation
Updated October 26, 2026
V71 means the dental master number on the claim isn't valid. Check the facility's master number and resubmit.
What it means
V71 means OHIP did not accept the dental master number on the claim. A master number identifies the facility where the service was provided.
The Ministry's list gives only the short description "Invalid Dental Master Number".
Common causes
- A typo in the master number
- A master number for a different facility, or one not valid for the service date
How to fix it
- Confirm the master number for the facility where the service was done.
- Correct the claim.
- Resubmit the corrected claim. Resubmit within three months of the service date if you can. If that window has passed but the claim was first submitted on time, use the Ministry's stale-dated resubmission process: one stale-dated claim file through MCEDT, then an email to [email protected] with the Error Reports showing the original submission date.
Don't resubmit if
- You have not confirmed the correct master number.
How APEX handles it
APEX reads your error reports and remittance advice from MCEDT and lists claims rejected with this code in its Correction Centre for you to correct and resubmit. See how APEX works · Pricing
