Comprehensive endocrinology consultation with at least 75 minutes of direct patient contact. Without start and stop times it pays less.
What it covers
A150 is the comprehensive endocrinology consultation in the Endocrinology & Metabolism (15) listing (A98). The endocrinologist provides all the elements of a consultation and spends at least 75 minutes in direct contact with the patient (A98).
The 75 minutes excludes time on any other separately payable service and non-patient-facing time such as reviewing charts, imaging or documentation (A98). The standard endocrinology consultation is A155 (A98).
Billing rules
- Start and stop times must be recorded in the patient's permanent record, or it pays as a lesser fee (A98).
- It must meet all the elements of a consultation, including a signed written request from the referring physician or nurse practitioner kept in your record (A98, GP16).
- Time-based consultations count toward the consultation limits: one per patient per two consecutive 12-month periods for the same diagnosis, one per 12 months for an unrelated diagnosis (GP17-GP18).
- Only for physicians registered in Endocrinology & Metabolism (15); specialists bill from their own specialty's listing (GP9).
- Detention (K001) can only start after 120 minutes (GP31).
- Specialist consultations for children pay an age premium: 30% under 30 days, 25% to age 1, 20% to age 2, 15% to age 5 and 10% from 5 to 15 years (GP64).
- Payable by video only, never telephone, as comprehensive virtual care with K300A (AJ2, A70).
Common rejections
- A4D: A150 is in the Endocrinology & Metabolism (15) listing, and specialists bill consultations and visits from their own specialty's listing (GP9). A claim under another registered specialty rejects; bill that specialty's code instead.
