Explanation

Routine in-hospital visit by a consulting psychiatrist while the family physician stays most responsible and asks for continued directive care.
What it covers
C198 is concurrent care by a psychiatrist for a non-emergency hospital in-patient, per visit (A186).
Concurrent care is any routine assessment in hospital by the consultant after their first major assessment, when the family physician remains the most responsible physician but asks the consultant to continue directive care (GP48).
Billing rules
- Limited to 4 claims in the first week of concurrent care and 2 per week after that; extra claims are not paid (GP48).
- Not on the Appendix J virtual care lists, so it can't be billed as a virtual visit (AJ1–AJ2).
Common rejections
- AHF: OHIP's message is 'Concurrent or Supportive Care Same Period': check the weekly limits (4 in the first week, then 2 per week) and whether another concurrent or supportive care claim already covers that period (GP48).
