Routine hospital visit by a consulting otolaryngologist who continues directive care while the family physician stays most responsible.
What it covers
Concurrent care is any routine assessment in hospital by the consultant after the consultant's first major assessment, when the family physician remains the most responsible physician but asks the consultant for continued directive care (GP48).
C248 is the Otolaryngology listing, per visit (A166).
Billing rules
- Limit: 4 claims per week in the first week of concurrent care, then 2 per week. Excess is not payable (GP48).
- If you take over as the MRP, use subsequent visit codes (C242, C247, C249) instead (GP43, GP48).
- In-patient visits: see GP40–GP48. For emergency calls and special visits to in-patients, use the General Listings (A prefix) and premiums (A166).
Common rejections
- AHF: OHIP describes this as 'Concurrent or supportive care same period': concurrent care overlapped another visit type for the same period, or exceeded the weekly limit (GP48).
