Pronouncing a hospital in-patient dead. May include counselling relatives and completing the death certificate. Same conditions as A777.

What it covers

C777 is the in-patient version of the intermediate assessment – pronouncement of death, subject to the same conditions as A777 (A12). It may include counselling relatives at the same visit and completing the death certificate (GP27).

Billing rules

  • Submit the claim with the diagnostic code for the underlying cause of death on the death certificate, not the immediate cause (GP27).
  • Certification of death (C771) done with C777 is payable at nil (A7).
  • If you are called in on a special visit, bill A777 with the special visit premium instead, since special visits use the A-prefix General Listings (A12, GP69).
  • FHO: counts toward the hospital services special payment (Agreement Schedule 3, p.90; §8.5, p.66). In-patient services to enrolled patients are paid full fee-for-service (Agreement p.64 §7.2).
