Add-on to F030 for open reduction of an AO/OTA Group C distal radius fracture that needs both dorsal and volar internal fixation.

What it covers

E063 is added to F030 (open reduction of a distal radius fracture) when the fracture is an AO/OTA Group C complete intra-articular fracture that needs both dorsal and volar internal fixation (N21).

Under the AO/OTA classification, A is extra-articular, B is partial articular and C is complete articular (N22).

Billing rules

• Payable only as an add-on to F030; it raises the F030 fee by 50% (N21).
• Not payable unless the operative note describes both dorsal and volar internal fixation for an AO/OTA Group C fracture (N22).
• F021 is not payable with F030 for fractures of the same wrist (N22).
• F030 includes wrist denervation if performed (N22).
• General fracture rules apply to the base fee, such as 85% for additional fractures (N1).

Often billed with

• F030 open reduction of distal radius fracture (N21).
• E064 open reduction of distal ⅓ ulnar fracture and/or DRUJ repair, to F030 (N21).

Common rejections

• ADF: OHIP describes this as 'Corresponding procedure invalid, omitted or paid at zero': the add-on was billed without a paid F030 on the same claim.
