Add-on when a plaster cast is applied outside a hospital or ICHSC.
What it covers
E584 is the add-on for applying a plaster cast outside a hospital or an Integrated Community Health Services Centre. It is listed at the top of the Casts listings, Z198 to Z216 (N7).
Billing rules
- Only payable with a cast application code (N7).
- Casts or corrective splints applied at surgery (except a cast brace), or in the first 2 weeks after a fracture or dislocation when a procedure fee applies, are not billed separately (N7).
- Corrective splints must actually be corrective. Simple immobilization, such as a Jones bandage or metal finger splint after a soft-tissue injury, isn't a corrective splint (N7).
- Direct supervision means the physician is physically in the office when the cast is applied, unless the delegated procedure conditions are met (N7, GP62–GP63).
Often billed with
- Cast codes such as Z201 finger, Z202 hand, Z203 arm/forearm/wrist and Z199 foot (N7).
Common rejections
- ADF: OHIP describes this as 'Corresponding procedure invalid, omitted or paid at zero': this add-on is only paid with a cast application code on the same claim.
