Colonoscopic polypectomy add-on for each additional polyp of 3 mm to 5 mm. Maximum 2 additional-polyp add-ons per patient per day.

What it covers

E720 is the add-on for each additional polyp of 3 mm to 5 mm excised through the colonoscope, listed under Z571, excision of the first polyp of 3 mm to 5 mm (S19).

The first polyp code is chosen by the largest polyp excised: Z571 (3–5 mm), Z518 (6–9 mm), Z517 (10–19 mm) or Z516 (20–29 mm). Additional polyps use the add-on for their size: E720 (3–5 mm), E520 (6–9 mm), E519 (10–19 mm) or E518 (20–29 mm) (S19).

Billing rules

• Maximum 2 services of any combination of E720, E520, E519 and E518 per patient per day (S19).
• Only one of Z571, Z518, Z517 or Z516 is payable per patient per day; bill the one that matches the largest polyp excised (S19).
• Excision of polyps under 3 mm isn't payable, so E720 starts at 3 mm (S19).
• Fulguration is included in the colonoscopy codes, so it isn't billed separately (S19).
• Marked '#': the fee doesn't include premises, equipment, supplies or staff, which are funded by the hospital budget or ICHSC facility costs; patients can't be charged for them (GP13).

Often billed with

• Z571, or a larger first-polyp code (Z518, Z517, Z516), for the largest polyp excised (S19).
• The colonoscopy code for the indication, such as Z496 signs or symptoms, with extent add-ons E740, E741, E747 and E705 (S17–S18).
