What it covers

G920 is a percutaneous cervical sympathetic nerve block or stellate ganglion block with ultrasound or fluoroscopic guidance, one side (J78). Without image guidance, bill G234.

Billing rules

  • G920 and G234 are each limited to one unilateral or one bilateral procedure per patient per day, up to 24 services per patient per 12 months for any mix of unilateral and bilateral; for more, get written prior authorization from the Ministry (J78).
  • G234 is not payable with G920 for the same patient on the same day (J78).
  • Same patient, same day as other nerve blocks or injections only if it diagnoses or treats a separate condition (J78).
  • A sympathetic block that results from an epidural, spinal, plexus or peripheral nerve block is not billable as G920, G234 or G236 (J78).
  • Fees for obtaining or interpreting guidance images (professional or technical) are not payable on top of these injections (J74).
  • The chart must describe the procedure (or, with image guidance, keep images of final needle placement showing the site and/or contrast spread) and, for a diagnostic injection, its purpose and whether the response was positive or negative (J74).

Often billed with

  • E445 when alcohol or other sclerosing solutions are used (J78).

Common rejections

  • ADH: OHIP describes this as 'Cannot be billed together': G920 and G234 were billed for the same patient on the same day (J78).
