Premium for the ED physician who renders a service, with no assessment claimable, at night (00:00 to 08:00). One per patient visit.

What it covers

When the ED physician renders any other service in premium hours and an assessment may not be claimed, one premium is applied per patient visit. H112 is the premium for nights (00:00 to 08:00) (A16).

It recognizes after-hours work when the visit's only billable service is something other than an ED assessment, for example a procedure (A16).

Billing rules

  • Use H-prefix ED codes when you are working a scheduled ED or Hospital Urgent Care Clinic shift, or when you are on call and the visit doesn't qualify for a special visit premium. Any physician on duty, whatever the specialty, must use these codes (GP50).
  • Only when an assessment may not be claimed for the visit; if you can bill an ED assessment, bill that instead (A16).
  • One premium (H112, H113 or H114) per patient visit (A16).
  • Special visit premiums are not payable with H-prefix ED codes (GP65).
  • Not payable fee-for-service in an ED covered by an alternative funding agreement, except under the AFA's second on-call or GP Expert group numbers (GP110).

Often billed with

  • The procedure or other service rendered at that visit (A16).
  • E413 (+40%) for an eligible procedure commenced 00:00–07:00 (GP104).

Common rejections

  • ESD: The hospital ED is part of an alternative funding agreement, so H-prefix services there aren't paid fee-for-service unless billed under the AFA's second on-call or GP Expert group number (GP110).
