Explanation

Updated October 26, 2026

Neurocognitive testing of at least 46 minutes by a geriatrician, neurologist or psychiatrist, covering memory, attention, language and more.

What it covers

An extended specific neurocognitive assessment is an assessment of neurocognitive function, done personally by the physician, that tests memory, attention, language, visuospatial function and executive function (A58).

At least 46 minutes (consecutive or not) must be spent only on this service, including giving and scoring the tests, all on the same day. Acceptable batteries include the Toronto Cognitive Assessment (TorCA), or the BNA short form plus MoCA or plus FAB. MoCA, BNA-SF or FAB alone is not enough (A58).

Billing rules

  • Only payable to specialists in Geriatrics (07), Neurology (18) or Psychiatry (19) (A58).
  • At least 46 minutes dedicated to the testing on one day (A58).
  • Record start and stop times in the medical record (A58).
  • Only one of K032 or K042 is payable to the same physician on the same day (A58).
  • Must be done personally by the physician (A58).
  • Not on the Appendix J virtual care list, so it is not payable by video or phone (AJ1–AJ3).
