S247 is haemorrhoidectomy, with or without sigmoidoscopy or repair of fissure(s) and/or sphincterotomy and/or anal dilation (S28).

The fees for excision, ligation and injection of haemorrhoids include anoscopy (S27).

Billing rules

• Insured only when the patient has failed a trial of non-surgical therapy, has Grade III or IV haemorrhoids, or has haemorrhoids with substantial concomitant skin tags (S28).
• Anoscopy is included and not billed separately (S27).
• Complete haemorrhoidectomy by cryotherapy and/or Barron ligation is Z565 instead (S28).
• With other procedures under the same anaesthetic, the major procedure is paid in full and the others at 85% (SP2).
• Marked #: premises, equipment, supplies and staff are not included in the fee (SP1).
