S784 is the management of an ectopic pregnancy by any surgical technique (V9).

Medical management of an ectopic pregnancy is A922, with follow-up visits A921 (K4–K5).

Billing rules

• Add E852 when tuboplasty is done (V9).
• Add E860 for a diagnostic laparoscopy done before a laparotomy (V9; V1, rule 5).
• A D&C is not payable with S784 (V1, rule 2).
• When the surgeon makes a special visit for non-elective surgery: weekdays 07:00–17:00, consultation or assessment + special visit premium + procedure; evenings, nights, weekends and holidays, add E409 or E410 (SP2, §2; GP104).
• More than one procedure under the same anaesthetic (or within 14 days in the same admission for the same condition): the major procedure is paid in full and the others at 85% (SP2, §3).
• Eligible for the E676 morbid obesity premium: BMI over 40 charted, general anaesthesia (SP6, SP7).
