General re-assessment by an internist when a resident returns to long-term care after at least 3 days in another institution.
What it covers
W237 is the Internal Medicine (13) long-term care admission assessment, Type 3 (A131). A Type 3 admission assessment is a general re-assessment of a patient re-admitted to the long-term care institution after a stay of at least 3 days in another institution (GP49).
Long-term care (W-prefix) services cover chronic care and convalescent hospitals, nursing homes, homes for the aged, and designated chronic or convalescent beds, but not patients in designated palliative care beds (GP49).
Billing rules
- Specialists bill from the Consultations and Visits listing for their own Royal College specialty on file with the Ministry, here Internal Medicine (13) (GP9).
- The patient must have been away in another institution for at least 3 days before re-admission (GP49).
- A general re-assessment includes everything in a general assessment, but the history can be shorter where details are already on file (GP22).
- Not on the Appendix J virtual care list, so it is not payable by video or phone (AJ1–AJ3).
