Explanation

Updated October 26, 2026

Incision and drainage of an abscess or haematoma in the palmar or plantar spaces under general anaesthetic.

What it covers

Z108 treats an abscess or haematoma of the palmar or plantar spaces under general anaesthetic (M1).

The same procedure under local anaesthetic is Z103 (M1).

Billing rules

  • If no anaesthetic is needed, claim the local anaesthetic listing instead (SP5 §19).
  • As a Z-code procedure it is an Independent Operative Procedure (IOP): if your major pre-operative visit was in the prior 12 months, only a partial assessment is payable earlier that day (SP4 §13).
  • The E515 sole-procedure-in-OR premium lists Z102, Z172, Z105, Z107, Z541, Z574 and Z758, not Z108 (M1).
  • Marked #: the fee does not include premises, equipment, supplies or staff; in hospital these are funded by the hospital budget, and patients can't be charged for them (GP13).
  • Age premiums apply for patients under 16, from 10% to 30% by age (GP64).
