What it covers

Z292 is direct laryngoscopy without biopsy (P7). With biopsy it is Z293, with foreign body removal Z322, and with removal of lesions Z323 (P7).

Billing rules

• Z292 with gastroscopy, oesophagoscopy, oesophagogastroscopy, duodenoscopy or small bowel push enteroscopy is payable only when done for suspected laryngeal disease; these claims go to manual review with a written explanation (P7).
• Z296 is not payable with Z292 for the same patient on the same day (P7).
• Add E600 when an operating microscope is used (P7).
• Z codes are independent operative procedures (IOP), payable in addition to an assessment. If you made the decision to operate in the past 12 months, only a partial assessment (specialist) or minor assessment (GP) is payable before the IOP that day; if the decision is the same day, no other assessment before it is paid (GP4, SP4).
