Explanation

Cryotherapy (cauterization) of the cervix. Chemical cauterization is paid as a visit; cryoconization for dysplasia is Z729.

What it covers

Z732 is cauterization of the cervix by cryotherapy, listed under Cervix Uteri (V6). The other cauterization listings are chemical (visit fee only), Z724 electrocautery and Z725 dilatation and cauterization under general anaesthesia (V6).

Cryoconization, electroconization or CO2 laser therapy for a premalignant lesion (dysplasia or carcinoma in situ) is a different code, Z729 (V6).

Billing rules

  • As a Z code, payable in addition to an assessment (GP4); if the major pre-operative visit was in the previous 12 months, only a minor assessment (GP/FP) or partial assessment (specialist) is payable before it that day (SP4).
  • In composite operations, such as anterior and posterior repair with cauterization of the cervix and biopsy, only the major procedure fee(s) are payable (V1).
  • FHO: the after-hours premium (Q012A on the claim) is calculated on listed codes such as A007A, not on Z732 (Agreement p.68 §8.12).

Often billed with

  • A007 intermediate assessment at the visit where the decision to treat is made (GP4, SP4).

Common rejections

  • A2B: OHIP flagged Z732, a procedure on the cervix, as not usual for the sex on the patient's OHIP record. Check the health number and patient details on the claim against the patient's card and record.
