- Code
- A2B
- Description
- Service not usually performed for the patient's sex
Explanation
Updated October 26, 2026
The fee code isn't normally done for the patient's sex on OHIP's records. Check the patient's details and the code.
What it means
A2B means the service is not normally performed for patients of the sex recorded for this patient. The Ministry's message asks you to check your records.
OHIP compares the fee code with the sex it has on file for the health number. A pregnancy-related or sex-specific screening code billed for a patient recorded as the other sex will reject.
Common causes
- The wrong patient or health number on the claim
- The wrong fee code, for example a code chosen from the wrong list
- The patient's sex on the claim or in the Ministry's records doesn't match the service provided
How to fix it
- Check that the health number and patient details on the claim belong to the patient you saw.
- Check that the fee code is the one you meant to bill.
- If both are correct and the service was really provided, call the Service Support Contact Centre (1-800-262-6524) to ask how to have the claim considered.
- Resubmit the corrected claim. Resubmit within three months of the service date if you can. If that window has passed but the claim was first submitted on time, use the Ministry's stale-dated resubmission process described under VJ7.
Don't resubmit if
- You haven't changed the patient details or the fee code.
How APEX handles it
