Code
A1A
Description
Outside Service Period

Explanation

Updated October 26, 2026

The service date is outside the period OHIP allows for this service, so the claim was rejected.

What it means

A1A means the claim is outside the service period. The Ministry's list gives no more detail than "Outside Service Period".

Common causes

  • The service date was keyed wrong
  • The fee code is only payable in a set period, and the service date falls outside it

How to fix it

  1. Check the service date on the claim against the chart.
  2. Check the Schedule of Benefits for any period that applies to the fee code.
  3. Correct the service date or fee code. Resubmit the corrected claim. Resubmit within three months of the service date if you can. If that window has passed but the claim was first submitted on time, use the Ministry's stale-dated resubmission process described under VJ7.

Don't resubmit if

  • The service date is correct and the code isn't payable then.

How APEX handles it
