Description
Initial assessment already billed by another physician - paid as interim admission orders

Explanation

Updated October 26, 2026

OHIP paid this claim as in-patient interim admission orders because another physician already claimed the initial admission assessment.

What it means

Code C9 means your assessment was paid as in-patient interim admission orders, because another physician already claimed the initial assessment for the admission.

In-patient interim admission orders (H105) are paid to an emergency department physician who writes interim orders while a different physician admits the patient as most responsible physician. H105 is payable in addition to the initial ED consultation or assessment if each is done separately, and at nil if the ED physician is paid the admission assessment (A15–A16).

Common causes

  • You and the admitting physician both billed the admission assessment

How to fix it

  1. Check which physician admitted the patient and became most responsible physician.
  2. If you were the admitting physician, send a Remittance Advice Inquiry (RAI) through eSubmit, or on form 0918-84, within 7 months of the RA date, with supporting details such as your chart notes.
  3. If another physician admitted the patient, the interim orders payment is correct.

Don't resubmit if

  • Another physician admitted the patient and claimed the admission assessment.
