Code
D2
Description
Additional procedures allowed at 50%

Explanation

Updated October 26, 2026

OHIP paid the additional procedures at 50% because more than one procedure was billed. This is often expected.

What it means

Code D2 means that when more than one procedure was billed, the extra procedures were paid at 50%.

The Schedule has this rule for some procedure groups. For example, when more than one cardiac catheterization procedure (Z439 to G288, except G262 and G263) is done at one sitting, the additional procedures are paid at 50% (J9). Rules differ by section; surgical procedures follow an 85% rule instead (SP2).

Common causes

  • More than one procedure in the same group at one sitting

How to fix it

  1. Check which procedure was paid in full and which at 50%.
  2. If the procedures were done at separate sittings, or the 50% rule doesn't apply to these codes, send a Remittance Advice Inquiry (RAI) through eSubmit, or on form 0918-84, within 7 months of the RA date, with supporting details such as your chart notes.
  3. Otherwise, the payment is correct.

Don't resubmit if

  • The claim is already on the RA and you only disagree with the decision. Use an RAI, not a new claim.
