Code
DL
Description
Allowed as laboratory tests in private office

Explanation

Updated October 26, 2026

DL explains a payment: the service was allowed as a laboratory test done in a physician's office. Usually nothing to fix.

What it means

DL appears on the Remittance Advice (RA) when OHIP allows a service as a laboratory test performed in a private (physician's) office. It explains how the line was assessed. It is not a rejection.

Office laboratory tests are listed under Laboratory Medicine in Physician's Office (Schedule page J65). They are insured only when the physician (or a substitute) performs the test in the physician's own office for their own patient. The result, the physician's interpretation and the treatment decision must be documented in the patient's record.

How to fix it

  1. Check the amount paid on the line against what you billed.
  2. If the amount is what you expected, there is nothing to do.
  3. Make sure your records show the test result, your interpretation and the treatment decision, as the Schedule requires.
  4. If you think the payment is wrong, send a Remittance Advice Inquiry (RAI) through eSubmit, or on form 0918-84, within 7 months of the RA date, with supporting details.

Don't resubmit if

  • The claim is already on your RA. A new claim for the same service will be treated as a duplicate. Use an RAI instead.
