Error code

EQL — Physician not eligible to bill this fee code

Not eligible for fee code

You aren't eligible for this fee code, such as A100 billed by a non-00 specialty or under an emergency department funding group.

What to do: Check the fee code against your specialty and registration; for A100, bill under specialty 00 with your own arrangement.

EQL
Description
Physician not eligible to bill this fee code

Explanation

Updated October 26, 2026

EQL means you aren't eligible for this fee code. The Ministry's example is A100 billed by a non-00 specialty or under an ED funding agreement group.

What it means

EQL means the physician is not eligible to claim the fee code. The Ministry's example is A100 (General/Family physician emergency department assessment) billed with a specialty code other than 00, or billed by a provider with an Emergency Department Alternate Funding Arrangement (EDAFA) group number.

A100 is for the patient's own family physician, called in to an emergency department funded under an ED-AFA. Emergency physicians working in that department are not meant to bill it (Schedule A7).

Common causes

  • A100 billed under a specialty other than 00
  • A100 billed under an emergency department alternate funding group number
  • Another fee code billed by a physician whose registration doesn't allow it

How to fix it

  1. Check the fee code against your specialty and registration.
  2. For A100, bill under specialty 00 with your own (non-EDAFA) billing arrangement, and include the emergency department's master number.
  3. If you worked a shift in that emergency department, bill under that arrangement's own rules instead of A100.
  4. Resubmit the corrected claim within three months of the service date. If that window has passed but the claim was first submitted on time, use the Ministry's stale-dated resubmission process.

Don't resubmit if

  • You saw the patient as the emergency department physician on shift.
