L8 means this service can't be claimed with a prenatal or fetal assessment.
What it means
L8 means the laboratory service is not payable when claimed together with a prenatal or fetal assessment for the same patient.
How to fix it
- Check which prenatal or fetal assessment was billed for the patient.
- If you believe the decision is wrong, send a Remittance Advice Inquiry (RAI) through eSubmit, or on form 0918-84, within 7 months of the RA date, with supporting details.
Don't resubmit if
- The line is already on your RA. Question it with an RAI, not a new claim.
