- Code
- O1
- Description
- Obstetric care fee split between providers
Explanation
Updated October 26, 2026
O1 means the obstetric care fee was split between providers. Check that your share matches the care you gave.
What it means
O1 means the fee for obstetric care was apportioned, or divided, between more than one provider.
Common causes
- The patient's care was transferred between physicians during the pregnancy
How to fix it
- Check the amount paid against the care you provided.
- For transfers of an uncomplicated patient, the second physician bills an assessment followed by prenatal visits (Schedule K2).
- If you believe the decision is wrong, send a Remittance Advice Inquiry (RAI) through eSubmit, or on form 0918-84, within 7 months of the RA date, with supporting details.
Don't resubmit if
- The line is already on your RA. Question it with an RAI, not a new claim.
How APEX handles it
