Error code

O5 — Not allowed in addition to delivery

Included in delivery fee

This service isn't payable on top of the delivery because the delivery fee already includes it, such as routine newborn care.

What to do: Check what was billed with the delivery against Schedule K2 to K3 before sending a remittance advice inquiry.

Code
O5
Description
Not allowed in addition to delivery

Explanation

Updated October 26, 2026

O5 means this service isn't payable in addition to the delivery fee. Check what the delivery fee includes.

What it means

O5 means the service is not allowed in addition to the delivery. The delivery fee already includes it.

For example, ordinary immediate care of the newborn is included in the labour and delivery fee (Schedule K3). An assessment of a patient in the first stage of labour who is admitted to the delivery room is also not paid separately (Schedule K2, note 6).

Common causes

  • An assessment billed for a patient already in labour
  • Routine newborn care billed by the delivering physician

How to fix it

  1. Check what was billed with the delivery and whether the Schedule includes it in the delivery fee (Schedule K2 to K3).
  2. If you believe the decision is wrong, send a Remittance Advice Inquiry (RAI) through eSubmit, or on form 0918-84, within 7 months of the RA date, with supporting details.

Don't resubmit if

  • The line is already on your RA. Question it with an RAI, not a new claim.
