Code
R06
Description
Invalid Provider for RMBS

Explanation

Updated October 26, 2026

R06 means the billing provider isn't valid for Reciprocal Medical Billing. Check the billing number on the out-of-province claim.

What it means

Error R06 is the Ministry's "Invalid Provider for RMBS". The provider on the Reciprocal Medical Billing (RMB) claim is not valid for the RMB system. The Ministry gives no further detail.

Reciprocal Medical Billing (RMB) is how Ontario physicians bill OHIP for insured services to patients covered by another Canadian province's or territory's health plan, except Quebec. An RMB claim uses payment program RMB and carries the patient's out-of-province registration details instead of an Ontario health number.

Common causes

  • A wrong billing number or group number on the claim
  • A provider type that can't bill through RMB

How to fix it

  1. Check the billing number and group number on the claim.
  2. Correct any error and resubmit within three months of the service date if you can. If that window has passed but the claim was first submitted on time, use the Ministry's stale-dated resubmission process.
  3. If the numbers are right, contact the Ministry to ask why the provider isn't accepted for RMB.
