SF — MRP visit not allowed during post-op period - surgical fee adjusted

Post-op visit deducted

A most responsible physician visit was paid during the post-operative period, so OHIP took it back from the surgical fee.

What to do: Check the most responsible physician visits around the surgery date; if routine post-operative care, the adjustment is correct.

Code
SF
Description
MRP visit not allowed during post-op period - surgical fee adjusted

Explanation

Updated October 26, 2026

SF means an MRP visit isn't allowed during the post-operative period, so the surgical fee was adjusted. Post-op care is part of the surgery.

What it means

Code SF means OHIP adjusted the surgical fee because a Most Responsible Physician (MRP) visit was paid during the post-operative period, when it is not allowed.

The surgical fee includes follow-up care until the first post-operative visit (SP1). OHIP took the visit payment back from the surgical fee.

Common causes

  • The surgeon billed MRP visits for their own surgical patient in the post-operative period

How to fix it

  1. Check the MRP visits billed for this patient around the date of surgery.
  2. If they were for routine post-operative care, the adjustment is correct.
  3. If the visits were for an unrelated condition or a complication that needed separate care, send a Remittance Advice Inquiry (RAI) through eSubmit, or on form 0918-84, within 7 months of the RA date.

Don't resubmit if

  • The claim is already on your Remittance Advice. Use an RAI, not a new claim.
