Error code
VC — Earlier procedure not allowed with visit fee - fee adjusted to pay the difference
Visit paid the difference
A procedure already paid can't be paid in addition to this visit, so OHIP paid only the difference for the visit.
What to do: Find the procedure claim for the same patient and date; if both were for the same problem, nothing to do.

- Description
- Earlier procedure not allowed with visit fee - fee adjusted to pay the difference
Explanation
Updated October 26, 2026
A procedure already paid can't be paid in addition to this visit, so OHIP paid the visit only for the difference. Usually no action.
What it means
Code VC means OHIP had already paid a procedure that is not allowed in addition to the visit fee now claimed. Instead of refusing the visit, OHIP paid the difference between the two, so the total for the encounter is not more than allowed.
It mirrors code VA, where the procedure is reduced because a visit was paid.
Common causes
- The visit and the procedure were for the same problem on the same day
- The procedure was processed on an earlier RA than the visit
How to fix it
- Find the procedure claim for the same patient and date.
- If both were for the same problem, the adjustment is expected.
- If the visit was for an unrelated, significant problem in another body system (Schedule SP4), check the diagnostic codes. If you believe the payment is wrong, send a Remittance Advice Inquiry (RAI) through eSubmit, or on form 0918-84, within 7 months of the RA date, with supporting details.
Don't resubmit if
- You disagree with how a claim already on the RA was paid. Use an RAI, not a new claim.
