Mini assessment for an unrelated non-WSIB problem seen at the same visit as a WSIB minor assessment. Payable only when the WSIB part was an A001.
What it covers
A mini assessment is rendered when a patient is assessed for an unrelated non-WSIB problem during the same visit as an assessment of a WSIB-related problem for which only a minor assessment was rendered (A4).
Billing rules
- Only payable when the WSIB part of the visit is the service described as A001. If a different service or a higher level of assessment is claimed for the WSIB part, A008 isn't payable in addition (A4).
- Can be billed by video or telephone as comprehensive virtual care with an existing patient-physician relationship; add K300A or K301A, and telephone pays 85% (AJ1, A70).
- FHO: A008A is an in-basket core service (Agreement Schedule 2, p.75).
Often billed with
- FHO: Q012A after-hours premium for enrolled patients in evening and weekend hours or on holidays; A008A is on the eligible list (Agreement p.68; OMA Q-codes p.8).
- E080 for the primary care physician's first office or home visit within two weeks of an acute care discharge (GP28).
- E079 smoking cessation initial discussion, once per patient per 12 months (A56).
- K301A or K300A modality indicator when the visit is by phone or video (A70).
Common rejections
- VW1: OHIP's description is 'Invalid WCB service'. A008 is only payable for an unrelated non-WSIB problem when the WSIB part of the visit was an A001 (A4); check the claim against that before resubmitting.
