Error code
VW1 — Invalid WCB Service
Not a valid WSIB service
The claim was billed under the WCB (workplace injury) payment program, but the service isn't a valid WCB service.
What to do: Check that the service was for the work injury; if not, bill it under HCP (Ontario health insurance) instead.
- Code
- VW1
- Description
- Invalid WCB Service
Explanation
Updated October 26, 2026
VW1 means the service isn't valid for the WCB (WSIB) payment program. Check the fee code, or bill it to OHIP if it isn't work-related.
What it means
VW1 means OHIP rejected a claim billed under the WCB payment program because the service is not a valid WCB service. WCB claims are for patients with Ontario health coverage who have work-related injuries; OHIP processes them for the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB).
The Ministry's list gives only the short description "Invalid WCB Service".
Common causes
- A fee code that WSIB does not accept through this route
- A service that was not related to the work injury, billed under WCB by mistake
How to fix it
- Check that the service was for the work-related injury.
- If it was not, bill it under HCP (Ontario health insurance) instead.
- If it was, check the fee code and WSIB's billing rules for that service, correct the claim and resubmit.
Don't resubmit if
- You have changed neither the payment program nor the fee code.
How APEX handles it
APEX reads your error reports and remittance advice from MCEDT and lists claims rejected with this code in its Correction Centre for you to correct and resubmit. See how APEX works · Pricing
