Comprehensive cardiology consultation with at least 75 minutes of direct patient contact. Start and stop times must be charted.
What it covers
A600 is a consultation by a cardiology specialist who provides all the appropriate elements of a consultation and spends at least 75 minutes in direct contact with the patient, not counting other separately billable services (A79).
Time excludes non-patient-facing work such as reviewing charts, imaging or documentation (A79).
Billing rules
- Record start and stop times in the chart, or it is paid at a lesser fee (A79).
- Must meet all the elements of a consultation, including the written request and report (A79, GP16).
- Counts toward the consultation limits, like any time-based consultation (GP18).
- Patients under 16: specialist consultations get an automatic age premium (GP64).
- Detention (K001) can start only after 120 minutes (GP31).
- Video only as virtual care (Appendix J AJ2).
Common rejections
- ARF: 'Missing physician referring number': a consultation claim needs the referring provider's billing number (GP16).
- AT2: 'Must include video modality': this consultation is video-only as virtual care; it can't be billed by phone (Appendix J AJ2).
