Comprehensive endocrinology consultation for a hospital in-patient: at least 75 minutes of direct contact with the patient.
What it covers
A comprehensive endocrinology consultation is a consultation by an endocrinologist who provides all the elements of a consultation and spends at least 75 minutes in direct contact with the patient, not counting time on any other separately billable service (A98).
C150 is the in-patient version and has the same conditions as A150 (office). W150 is the long-term care version (A98, A102, A103).
Billing rules
- Record start and stop times in the chart, or payment is reduced to a lesser fee (A98).
- The 75 minutes excludes time on other separately payable services and non-patient-facing time such as reviewing charts, imaging or documentation (A98).
- Must meet all the elements of a consultation, including the written request and a report to the referrer (A98, GP16).
- Counts toward the consultation limits: one per two consecutive 12-month periods for the same diagnosis, with the in-patient exception at 12 to 24 months (GP17, GP18).
- Detention (K001) is only payable after 120 minutes (GP31).
- Patients under 16 get an age premium of 10% to 30%, depending on age (GP64).
- By video only for an in-patient or long-term care resident, and only if you aren't the MRP, no local physician with the expertise is available (documented by the referrer), and the referrer assessed the patient in person within the past 30 days (Appendix J AJ2, A69).
Often billed with
- K001 detention after 120 minutes (GP31).
- E082 MRP admission premium when it is the MRP's admission assessment (GP42).
Common rejections
- ARP: OHIP needs the referring provider's number on a consultation claim; add the referrer's billing number from the written request and resubmit (GP16).
