Explanation

A neurologist's routine hospital visit as consultant when the family physician stays most responsible but asks for continued care.
What it covers
Concurrent care is any routine assessment in hospital by the consultant after the consultant's first major assessment, when the family physician remains the most responsible physician but asks the consultant to continue directive care (GP48).
C188 is the Neurology (18) in-patient listing, billed per visit (A144).
Billing rules
- Limited to 4 claims per week in the first week of concurrent care and 2 per week after that; extra visits are not payable (GP48).
- The first major assessment is billed with the consultation or assessment code; concurrent care starts after it (GP48).
Common rejections
- AHF: OHIP describes this as 'Concurrent or Supportive Care Same Period': check that concurrent care visits stay within the weekly limits and don't overlap another care claim for the same period (GP48).
