Explanation

Routine in-hospital visit by the obstetrician-gynaecologist consultant while the family physician stays the most responsible physician.
What it covers
C208 is concurrent care by an obstetrician-gynaecologist, billed per visit (A151).
Concurrent care is any routine hospital assessment by the consultant after the consultant's first major assessment, when the family physician remains the most responsible physician but asks the consultant to continue directive care (GP48).
Billing rules
- Maximum 4 per week in the first week of concurrent care, then 2 per week. Extra visits are not payable (GP48).
- The consultant's first major assessment (for example C205 consultation) comes first; concurrent care is the follow-up (GP48).
- When the consultant is the MRP, routine visits are subsequent visits (C202, C207, C209) instead (A150; GP43).
- Not on the Appendix J virtual care lists, so not payable as virtual care (AJ1–AJ2).
Common rejections
- A4D: 'Invalid specialty for this service code': these codes are for Obstetrics and Gynaecology (20). Specialists must bill from their own specialty's listings (GP9).
- AHF: 'Concurrent or supportive care same period': concurrent care was billed in a period where the limits or another concurrent/supportive care claim already apply (GP48).
- AM1: 'Service limit exceeded': more than 4 concurrent care visits in the first week, or 2 a week after (GP48).
