Hospital in-patient special visit premium for the first patient seen on a weekday daytime non-elective call; needs a payable travel premium.
What it covers
C990 is the first person seen premium in Special Visit Premium Table III, Hospital In-Patient, for weekday daytime, 07:00 to 17:00 (GP72).
On weekday daytimes, a first person seen premium is only payable when a travel premium is payable for the trip (GP66). In this table that is C960.
Billing rules
- Maximum 10 per time period, counting first and additional persons (C990 and C991) together (GP72).
- Bill with C960 travel premium (maximum 2 per time period); travel within the same hospital complex or campus doesn't count (GP66, GP72).
- If you displace booked office patients to go, the sacrifice of office hours code C992 applies instead (GP65, GP72).
- Not payable for patients seen on rounds, or with the admission assessment of an elective admission (GP65).
- When you are already in the hospital and see your own patient, it is a subsequent visit, not a special visit (GP43).
- Bill the A-prefix assessment from the General Listings, such as A933 or A003, and record the time of the visit (GP69).
Often billed with
- A933 on-call admission assessment for a non-elective admission where you become the MRP (A7).
- E082 adds 30% to the admission assessment only; it doesn't apply to the special visit premium (GP42).
- C960 travel premium (GP72).
